The Jacob's mussel comes primarily from the mediterranean sea and especially off the Spanish coast. It belongs to the scallop family and reaches a size of 10 to 13cm. It is particularly coveted due to the orange colour of the corail (roe sack) and the firm, white meat. Jacob's mussels have a slightly nutty flavour.
